Cards from a Couple of Sketches/Challenges

Over the weekend, I made cards following a couple of sketches as suggested by a fellow SU demonstrator. I find it creatively challenging to make cards using some of the sketches that can be found online.

Here's the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches Blog.
Here's my card:

Here's the other sketch/challenge:

Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  1. Create a project with "Stars."
  2. Create a set of "Thank you Cards with Matching Envelopes"
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a set of "Thank you Cards & Envelopes using Stars."

And here's what I came up with (I made two cards because I forgot it was supposed to be a thank you card...):

I hope you will challenge yourself, every now and then, to create some cards using some of the many sketches that can be found.

I 'Heart' You

I have been doing a little of this and a little of that lately, with some card making thrown in. I'm like so many others and have pinned numerous ideas on Pinterest. I have used many of those ideas but I still have so many more to try!

Although I don't give a lot of Valentines, I do have an upcoming card workshop before Valentine's Day. I thought I'd make the focus of it 'hearts'. I began by looking through my Pinterest board for heart cards. These cards aren't necessarily Valentine cards but could be used for any occasion.

Here's one of the cards I've made following one of the ideas I found there:

Papers: Baked Brown Sugar, Night of Navy, Brushed Gold and Very Vanilla (for the card inside)
Inks: Night of Navy and Versa Mark
Stamps: Everything Eleanor and Love You to the Moon
Accessories: Full Heart Punch, Gold Embossing Powder and Stampin' Dimensionals

Now for some other cards with this same theme in mind. Some of these cards I've make recently, while others have been made over the past couple of years.

I have another project 'in the works'. And for those that know me, will enjoy my scrap paper thriftiness.

The finished results will have to wait until next time....

Card with Vivid Vases

The Vivid Vases stamp is a new single stamp in the Occasions Catalog.

I like the elegant look of this card (maybe it's just the colors that give it the elegant look). It's a very quick and easy card to make.

The ribbon is wrapped around the Perfect Plum piece before attaching it to the Elegant Eggplant card base. Then the bow is added to the corner where the ribbon layers cross over each other.

The Vivid Vases image is stamped onto the Whisper White using Jet Black StazOn and colored with Stampin' Write markers. Stampin' Dimensionals were used to attach the white sheet to "pop it up" on the card. Dazzling Details was added to some of the flowers, although it doesn't show up in the photo.

Stamping Supplies:
  • 133818     Vivid Vases (wood only stamp)
  • 105126     Elegant Eggplant cardstock
  • 101889     Perfect Plum cardstock
  • 100730     Whisper White cardstock
  • 101406     Jet Black StazOn ink

Until next time......

Family Growth

My family has grown! My daughter gave birth yesterday to a beautiful little girl. Brianna Frances arrived at 1:19am and weighed 7 lb 12 oz. She is our first granddaughter; we already have 3 wonderful grandsons.

I'll be back soon with some cards that spotlight some of the new items in Stampin' Up!'s Occasions Catalog that just became available on January 3,2014.

Until then.....

Life

I have been making cards recently using one of the new stamp sets becoming available on January 3 from Stampin' Up!. As I was working, I really began to ponder the words and their meaning on this stamp. How many of us really have a "perfect" life? Very few, if any, I'm sure. I think that we can all have a wonderful life in spite of our circumstances. So often, I truly believe that life is what we make it to be. If we spend our time focusing on what we don't have or what isn't right with our lives, then we will never find, or be, happy. But if, instead, we begin to focus on those around us and look for things to do for them, our whole perspective will begin to change and we will begin to feel better about ourselves and begin to make our own happiness.

I pray that each of us will make this our view of life and our goal for the new year.

Until next year (2014).....

Dryer Sheet Cards

At my workshops this weekend, we made these two cards using dryer sheets. The base images (snowman and nativity) were stamped with black StazOn then colored using markers. The used dryer sheets were stamped (snowflakes and stars) then placed over the base image card pieces. This gives a nice textured look to the underlying image. The sentiments were adhered on top of the dryer sheet.

Winner!?! Me?? Follow-up

Well, I was informed that there is no way to know which of my cards was indeed the 'winning' entry as all submissions were put into a drawing and randomly drawn as the World Card Making Day contest was not a skills based contest. Needless to say, it was a bit disheartening to learn this is how my entry was chosen. Oh well..... I still enjoy making cards and will continue to do so.
