Scraps and Festive Flurry Flower

I have been trying to use some of the "mis-stamped", pre-punched, scrap pieces, etc. that I have sitting around my crafting area. I was able to use several of these items on this card. I used some of my 1/4" wide scrap strips to create a background. I simply lined them up diagonally across my card front.

I have also been trying to come up with other ways to use the Festive Flurry stamp set besides as snowflakes. Since, I was using Summer Starfruit as my card base color, I stamped one of the medium sized 'flakes' in the same color. I soon discovered that my previously punched Boho Blossoms pieces matched the center of this stamp perfectly!

I layered everything up and stamped my sentiment using the Petite Pairs stamp set. I can definitely say that I will be making more cards using this scrappy background and changing the focal piece to make a card for any occasion.

More Five-Way Flowers

I had some extra Five-Way Flowers already stamped and punched so I decided to get them made up into cards. Again, here are the pieces that I started with:

As I began trying to decide what to make, I can across two sketches/challenges that I could use my flower pieces with. First, was Freshly Made Sketches #126:

And my card:

The other sketch challenge was Connie and Mary - Sketch Challenge CCMC293:

Five-Way Flower

I wanted to make a card using all of the five punch options of the Five-Way Flower stamp. I started with this:

Punched down to this:

Here is my card with the full Five-Way Flower and the pieces I used to make it:

Being the scrap paper saver/user that I am, I determined to use all of those leftover pieces. I was able to make an additional four cards from those pieces by adding to them. In some cases, I was able to use some previously stamped pieces that were sitting in my 'stash'.

Here are the additional cards with the Five-Way Flower pieces that were used to make them:

Non-stamping Project

This week I have taken a step away from card making to do a little sewing repair job. The rip in my husband's favorite blanket finally got to the point that I decided to cover it up. It 'hit' me a week ago that I could simply make a new top for the blanket using my stash of old jeans. (Yes, I savor fabric scraps and worn out jeans like I do my paper scraps! In fact, in the finished project you'll notice that I appliqued a couple of the patches from one of the grandson's jeans, that later became shorts.)

As soon as I get the sewing "mess" cleaned up, I'll be back to card making. (Later today, I hope.)

Until next time.....

Happy Valentine's Day

I wish you all a very special Valentine's Day filled with many heart-felt, warm wishes and happenings!

I only send Valentines to my grandchildren. For most holiday cards I make for them, I usually make them all the same card. However, I have several new stamps that I've been wanting to use so I made each of my four grandchildren (3 boys and 1 girl) a card special and unique for them. I'm sure the kids are more excited by the $1 enclosed in their card than they are the card itself!

And I wanted to share them all with you. I'm displaying them from oldest grandchild to youngest.

Again, Happy Valentine's Day and....

Heart Strings or Strings of Hearts

I'm sorry to have let you hanging for so long in regards to what I had done with all of the punched hearts.

The story starts when I got the November 2013 Paper Pumpkin kit from Stampin' Up! It included these cute little string of stars.

I thought, why not do the same thing with hearts? So I did! As you saw, I punched out LOTS of tiny hearts in various shades of red designer series papers. (Some were Christmas papers, some were retired papers and some were current papers.) I then sat down at my sewing machine and sewed them together.

To store them, I just rolled them up on empty toilet paper rolls.

And here's a card I made using them.

Until next time,

Cards from a Couple of Sketches/Challenges

Over the weekend, I made cards following a couple of sketches as suggested by a fellow SU demonstrator. I find it creatively challenging to make cards using some of the sketches that can be found online.

Here's the sketch from Freshly Made Sketches Blog.
Here's my card:

Here's the other sketch/challenge:

Here's your Mashup Challenge:
  1. Create a project with "Stars."
  2. Create a set of "Thank you Cards with Matching Envelopes"
  3. Or Mash it Up and create a set of "Thank you Cards & Envelopes using Stars."

And here's what I came up with (I made two cards because I forgot it was supposed to be a thank you card...):

I hope you will challenge yourself, every now and then, to create some cards using some of the many sketches that can be found.

I 'Heart' You

I have been doing a little of this and a little of that lately, with some card making thrown in. I'm like so many others and have pinned numerous ideas on Pinterest. I have used many of those ideas but I still have so many more to try!

Although I don't give a lot of Valentines, I do have an upcoming card workshop before Valentine's Day. I thought I'd make the focus of it 'hearts'. I began by looking through my Pinterest board for heart cards. These cards aren't necessarily Valentine cards but could be used for any occasion.

Here's one of the cards I've made following one of the ideas I found there:

Papers: Baked Brown Sugar, Night of Navy, Brushed Gold and Very Vanilla (for the card inside)
Inks: Night of Navy and Versa Mark
Stamps: Everything Eleanor and Love You to the Moon
Accessories: Full Heart Punch, Gold Embossing Powder and Stampin' Dimensionals

Now for some other cards with this same theme in mind. Some of these cards I've make recently, while others have been made over the past couple of years.

I have another project 'in the works'. And for those that know me, will enjoy my scrap paper thriftiness.

The finished results will have to wait until next time....

Happy Stamping 4 Fun,
Janet

Card with Vivid Vases

The Vivid Vases stamp is a new single stamp in the Occasions Catalog.

I like the elegant look of this card (maybe it's just the colors that give it the elegant look). It's a very quick and easy card to make.

The ribbon is wrapped around the Perfect Plum piece before attaching it to the Elegant Eggplant card base. Then the bow is added to the corner where the ribbon layers cross over each other.

The Vivid Vases image is stamped onto the Whisper White using Jet Black StazOn and colored with Stampin' Write markers. Stampin' Dimensionals were used to attach the white sheet to "pop it up" on the card. Dazzling Details was added to some of the flowers, although it doesn't show up in the photo.

Stamping Supplies:
  • 133818     Vivid Vases (wood only stamp)
  • 105126     Elegant Eggplant cardstock
  • 101889     Perfect Plum cardstock
  • 100730     Whisper White cardstock
  • 101406     Jet Black StazOn ink
  • 114319     5/8" Whisper White Organza Ribbon
  • 109070     3/8" Whisper White Taffeta Ribbon
  • 124117     Dazzling Details
  • 103683     Glue Dots
  • 104430     Stampin' Dimensionals
  • 104332     SNAIL Adhesive
Until next time......

Family Growth

My family has grown! My daughter gave birth yesterday to a beautiful little girl. Brianna Frances arrived at 1:19am and weighed 7 lb 12 oz. She is our first granddaughter; we already have 3 wonderful grandsons.

I'll be back soon with some cards that spotlight some of the new items in Stampin' Up!'s Occasions Catalog that just became available on January 3,2014.

Until then.....

Janet
